I called the Chicago office and talked to Agent in - Charge Purvis relative to newspaper reports concerning the alleged identification of the machine gun used at the bank robbery at Chicago with that used in the Kansas City massacre. Mr. Purvis stated that there is no truth in this statement; thet Mr. Gill, the Ballistics Expert at Kansas City, had arrived at Chicago yesterday and had been in touch with the Police Department to obtain the bullets found at the bank robbery end to compare them with the bulleta found at Kansas City; that shortly after this contact the newspapers appeared with headlines to the effect that an identification had been made; that My, Gill was disgusted and as a result of this publicity arranged to conduct his work in the Division office at Chicago; that he is now working there and he has reached no conclusion yet. With reference to the fingerprints, Purvis stated that no fingerprinta were found on the automobile but they have some latent prints teken from a map which was in the car and from a bucket or tank that waa in the car; thet these prints have been compered with all know criminals at Chicago but no identification has been made, and they are sending the fingerprints on to Washington.
