Oliver with Benjamin Harrison Covell, and ala to a memorandum of Speciel Agents Louis Loeb] and Earle M. Bleck dated September.11; erning their interviews with David D.Mayne and - Joan 4itchell fyenshaw relative to the above entitied subjectimatter, Agents Loebl and Black interviewed Ben jamin Herr ison¥Covell on September 27, 1935 in the latter's apartmont, 505 Southern Apert- ments, Washington, D. C. Covall's statement, made to Special Agents Erenotley and Oliver, was gone over with him and he reiterated the same to be absolutely true, He added thet during his incarceration in the U. S&S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth from February 1, 1924 until August 21, 1927, he served within the prison walls but 16 months, during which time he came in contact with Frank*Nash on a number of occasions but head not spoken to him probably more than 2 dozen wonis; that they were not tnterested in each other, hed nothing in common wiich they could have discussed and he did not mingle with those fellow prisoners who beppened to cater around Nash; that after having been made a trusty and clerk in the prison office, he, Covell, did not even come in cone tect with the prisaers whom he formerly met within the walls of the prison. Covell stated that he never met Harvey Bailey and did not know anything of him until he read about Bailey's eacape from a Texas jail several weeks ago; that he does not know @ man called *Big Poleck" of New Orleans or from any other place; that he spent about 19 monthe in New Orleans in 1919 and 1920 and about ¢ months in 1931, met several people there, was engaged in save bootlegging and bi-jacking in that vicinity but has never met an individual called "Big Polack". ee £2. 283 ASH Covell emphatically denied mentioning the names of Bailey or the "Big Polack® to anybody at any time.
