mentioned it to him; that to the best of his recollection the only
time he telked about his acquaintance with Frank Nash was on the 7
day the newspapers carried the news of the capture and killing of
Nash; thet he, Covell, with Norman Boles and Frank Sullivan and
probably one or two others ware seated in his car in front of the
Liberty Bank on 15th Street when one of them bought a paper and in
' peading the headline he, Covell, casually mentioned the fact that
both he and Nash served time in Leavenworth at the same tins.
Relative to his acquaintance with David D. Mayne, Covell
stated that he never met Mayne end would not know him if he saw him;

who used to shake people down and was a “tough guy". As to Henshaw,
Covell stated that he became acquainted with Henshaw somewhere ebout

thet Henshaw took him up to Cabrora'’s office where the latter askei him
if he, Covell, could not put him in touch with same rum runnera aiong
the Eastern coast of Florida who would undertake to carry anmunition in
their rum ships into Cuba for the revolutioniste; that Covell advised
Cebrora that he knew same rum runners on the Florida coast but that
neither he nor they would be interested in such a proposition. Covell
Stated that subsequently Henshaw got in some trouble with one JimyNeil
about some "hot |securities* and that around that time Henshew approached
him and told hint thet he had good connections in St. Louis to dispose of
some "not bonds? and wanted to know if he, Covell, had some which he de-
sired to get rid of; thet Henshaw had beeq bothering him with thie pro-
position several times after that and used to call at his home untii

the city and could not be reached,
