At 7:00 P.M. last evening (Wednesday, November 20) Chief of Detectives ~~.
Frpi W. Prehm of the Detroit Police Department called me, stating that eae nude body
of‘a murdered man had been found in a ditch at Cambridge and Herlow Streets, Detroit.
This location is in an isolated spot of the City, epprozimately 11 miles from. the
heert of the City of Detroit; that the body, wrapped in blankets, was first observed
by a Mr. Vernon B. Northrop of No. 19464 Barlow Avenue about 5:50 P.M. while he, Mr.
Northrop, was on his way home. He immediately notified Detroit Police Precinct ke.
14, and Patrolmen Charles Carlson and Alvin Jamea responded to the cell. Jue -
~ Upon reaching the place, these officers immediately notified the Homicide ;
Squad of the Police Department, and the following named detectives were ° sasigned by -*

u se Department, also accompanied the above officers for the purpose of securing -
fingerprints and making identification of the murdered man. A comparison of fingere:
prints reflected that the slain person was Subject Verne Miller. The body wes inme-"

I promptly contacted Russel J. Mecerty, who is also a detective ‘tn ‘the rm
Identification Bureau. He examined the fingerprints teken of the dead man, and an
pointed out that they were identical with the fingerprints of Verne Miller, which -..

the Morgue, where I viewed Miller's body, it was observed thet the first joint of |:
the left ring finger was missing. This corresponded with the description which we
hed on file. It was alao observed that he was wearing a red mustache and also that
his hair had been dyed red, which corresponded with recent information furnished by
the Chicago office concerning hia appearance in that city. His eyes were erey | and
