& representative of Wirfs Company did not seem enthu-
silastic about making a bid on this repair work. A Mr. Grant of
Grant and Son promised ts send in a bid, but from Agent Yansen's
observation of him, he wes not impressed that Grant would do this.
In view of the facts state? herein, further effort will not be
made to secure any bida on this house unless it isa the desire of
the Division that thia be done.
It might be stated here thet when agent Faul Hansen vas
in charge of the Cklahoma City Division office during my absence,
March 20, 1934, Mr. Hatier Snith who had rented this house and sub-
let it to Underhill’s associetes, and whose furniture has been
damaged and some atolen, called at the Gklahore City office and ad-
vised Agent Hansen that he had heard that some persons in Siiawnee had
made a bid on the estimated cost of repairing this house, and that
a piece appeared in the Shawmee newspsrer whersin it quoted Snith aa
seying the Government would repair this house. Lr. Snith said that
he did not advise anyone that the Government was going to repair
this house, and in fact, was not in town when Agent Hansen vas there,
The latter fact js corroborated by Acent Nansen, Mr. Smith observed,
howaver, thet as the Government was securing bids on the estimated
damage done to this house, it seened that they had some intention of
fixing the house up, and if such was the case, he believed that as
his loss was greater than the owner of the house by the dameze and
theft of some of his furniture, ha thought it would not be unreason-
able if the Government paid him his loss also. Agent “Yensen infomed
Smith that he hed no infomnation regarding the intention of the
Government with respect to repairing this house, and suggested if
Mr. Smith wanted to take this matter up that he write to the Division
concerning it. The Division, therefore, will probably receive a letter
from tir. Gnith in this regard.
Very truly yours,
