"as stated above, kr. SIEBER first came to California in 1932 and
then vent back to continue his work for Paramount. in France, as he spoke *
very poor English and was much more valuable to the organization in Europe *
than he was in this countrys In 1933 or 193) when he came over under the
* Quota, he came directly to California and again did not stay very long ‘
because he felt so out of place on account of his English, and because he -
had not risen high enouzh in his position with Paramount in France to obtain
4 good position here with the language handicap, and he went back to Franed
meroly with the purpose of making himself more valuable to the Paramount: ‘
organization, hoping to become important enough to make a place for himself
in California. The latter part of 193) he again returned to California t6 his
wifs and family, and staysed-for a whole year, Which a.ctended into the yearfot
1935, during which timo he made a picture with Liss DIETRICH, as assistant »
director, but this did not turn out so well because he was sensitive and felt
that the supposed success he was heaving was beernuse by that time Hiss DIeTRICH
was @ great star and he did not want to have his success attributed to ‘pull',
so again he went beck to Paris tovork for Paramount, returning to California
in December, 1935 to be with his family in their home, and also to strairhten
out the grest trouble hiss DIETRICH had when it was foun
hed forgéd some $75,000.00 worth of checks, as when he was hares working at
Paramount he had always been in very close touch with 23r business affairs,
and money matters and he was the only ene who could fo over the checks and
snowy hich ones were forged, which shows conclusively that he was always in
very close touch with her business affairs, as a husband should be. He did
not receive any salary during the year he was here end made a picture as
assistant directer because he did not wish te arouse antagonism and also he
did not think it ras fair to take monzy avay fron. an american on the set, so
ne worked without compensation.

"hr. SIZZER left again for Europe in Jenuary, 1936 with hiss DIET-~
HiCs betsuse she had eontractes to make the picture 'KNIGHT | ITHOUT ARLOUR!
and he remained there then to get the conpany started for her own productions,
because she wanted to give him = chance to make his own pictures and get
ercdit for his oom undeniable ability. Later, cs you recall, ir. VON STERN-
SENG had 2 nervous breakdorn and since he was the center of the company from
the directorial standpoint, they planned for ur. SIEBER to return to his home
in C.lifornia; this was in the fall of 1937. Then he vas held up on account
of the illness of the daughter, 2s siven above.
"LARTA and kr. SIEZER did not get back to the United States until
duns, 1732 and by thet time Liss DIZPRICH was readyte go back to Burops, so
Sh¢ met teem in Few York on their arrival in Jims of 1939, but by that time
sau vas finished! in pletures in Hollyvooc, so they said, and finding she
could not get a commitment for 2 picture here, they went back to France to
varotizte for 2 picture there, as.she thought that if she made a smash hit in
Francs’ she vould then be in demand asain in dollyveod. Ploase understand
thet on this anformition she left her furniture, bank sem unt, everything they
hac, in California, proving conclusively thet Culiformin was still their
heree “y the time they arrived in France the rar clouds were becoming. very:
ominous and irs. SIEBER returned to the United Stetes the first part of August”
