at this time that there has been evidence of child pornography
collected or that the SBDA's office will want any outside agency
to become involved in any aspect of this case related to the
prosecution of Jackson, including child pornography.
With the exception of duplicating recorded video media,
all offers of assistance regarding review and analysis of
evidence collected during the SBSD search of the Neverland Ranch
have been respectfully declined.
The FBI was asked to provide assistance in the area of
certain Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) inspections
at the SBSD facility. That assistance was provided. The SBSD has
also requested assistance concerning federal witness protection
for the victims and their family. However, there is insufficient
information at this time for the U.S. Attorney's office in los
Angeles to be able to recommend to the Attorney General that .
federal witness protection should be provided. Victim Witness
Assistance is being provided to the family through the SBDA's
office.
The SBSD and the SMRA are continuing to seek any
intelligence concerning any threat of violence relative to this
case by the "Jackson people," the Nation of Islam (NOI), or the
Fruits of Islam (the NOI security component). Results thus far
are negative.
The SBDA's office and the SBSD have received threats via
mail and e-mail against Santa Barbara County District Attorney
Tom Sneddon, Santa Barb riff Jim Anderson, Jackson,
and Jackson's attorney, [| SBDA investigators and the
SBSD are handling those threats at this time. There is nothing
developed to date to indicate the threats are credible, nor that
they should be disregarded. Threats received in the city of Santa
Barbara are being referred to the Ventura RA (which covers
matters occurring in the city of Santa Barbara) for whatever
handling is deemed appropriate.
The Jackson arraignment will take place at the Santa
Barbara County Courthouse in the city of Santa Maria at 8:30am
(PST) on January 16, 2004. The arraignment and related motions
could last as long as three hours.
The SMPD requested FBI involvement in the preparation and
planning for the Jackson arraignment because of the belief that
the Jackson court proceedings could represent a soft target for
terrorism due to the worldwide media attention the case is
receiving. Fans of Jackson are reported to be traveling to Santa
Maria from all over the world for the arraignment. Various
demonstrations and protests are expected and the crowd could
number in the thousands. However, as mentioned above, there is no
intelligence to indicate that there is a threat of violence
