This meant that BUDENZ was to give LATTINORE the same treatment inthe "Daily Worker" thet he would _- i give to any other Communist. BUDENZ stated that STACHEL frequently came * +o him and gave him the name of some individual who was to be given treatment i} by the "Daily Worker" as a Communist or some times as an individual sympathetic toward the Party. HUDENZ did not make any written list of these ce eens eee eT individuals, but it was his duty to retain them in his mina. een Concerning LATTIMORE'S activities in the Institute_of Pacific stated that he first heard about this around 1940 in a report to the Folitical Committee by FIELD. FIELD'S reports also contained data about PHILIP JAFFES. FUTENZ ateted that PEILIP JAFFE was a Communist and was a Far Eastern expert , and was the Menager of the publications hina Today" around 1937 or 1928. BIDENZ stated that "Amerasia® was the creation of the Communist Party, USA. He knew this as a result of reports by FPADEPICK VANDENSILT FIELD to the Political Committee. BUDENZ stated that he knew nothing of the finances of 5 "Chine Today" or "Anerasie." BUDENZ strted thet he knew thet FREDERICK VANDEREILT FIELD and PRILIP JAYEE were not only Communists but were engaged i in esplonage for the Communist Party, He stated that he kmew this as a result “of 6f reports : by ‘FIELD and JAFFE to the.
