small managing force-consisting of PHILIP JARFE and KATEXITCHELL, both of
whom were Communists. BUDENZ pointed out that it would be quite difficult

knowing that they were Communists and thay this was a Communist publication.
He pointed out that OTH and MARK}GAYN, both Communists, were also
active in contributing to "Amerasia."
In regard to LATTINORE'S work as Editor of "Pacific Affairs",
BUDENZ stated tha it was his recollection that this publicat on carried
articles by k Communists such as HARRIET MOORE, ANNA LOUISXSTRONG, ELLA
WINTER and JLAk N. BUDENZ pointed out “out that JIM ALLEN had been a Comintern
"representative | in“the Philippines wid Was a fairly Well-known Communist and
added that he believes that there were a number of other Communists who wrote
articles for "Pacific Affairs", and he ig going to try to recollect them.
BUDENZ stated that in the reports of FREDERICK VANDERBILT FIELD.

| heard SERVICE mentioned as being a Communist, but he certainly felt that
SERVICE was under the influence of LATTIMORE at least up until 1944.

In regard to the Institute of Facific Relations, BUDENZ recalled
that in the late 1930's the offices of the Institute of Pacific Relations
were located in the same building with the publication "China hina Today."
FREDERICK VANDERBILT FIELD was the Secretary of the Institute Gute of Pacific
Relations and at the same time was the Editor of the publication "China Today"
under the name SPENCER, _
