1950, by SA a: which time he provided the information }
set forth hereinafter. BARMINE stated that on March 28, 1950, the
‘day following his interview with agents of the New York Office, which
was reported to y asraers. of March 28, he was contacted
telephonicaly by "BILL"NYHITE. He described latter as son of
WILLIAM ALLETMWUHITE and @ former associate of his, BARMINE'S, at the
time the latter was employed by Readers Digest.
With further reference to WHITE, he commented that he,
BARMTNE, had reviewed LATTIMORE'S "Book" at the time it was presented to
Readers Digest for condensation and possible publication. BARMING said
that he “succeeded in killing it" and Readers Digest did not publish the
condensation. He indicated that WHITE was associated with him in this
incident and said that he had told WHITE “and some ether associates in
the publishing business" of what he had been told eR with regard
to LATTIMORE and the IPR. WHITE, when he called, told RARMINE that he had,
some weeks previous to the call, met one MXISHER™ (oh.) at a party and
told him of what BARMINE had told him some years previously resarding
LATTINORE. Soon thereafter "KISHER" approached WHITE ani told him that
he was either a friend of Senator Me Carthy or was connected with his
recent investigative activities; BARMINE was not just sure how "KISHER”
identified his relationship to MeCARTHY to YHIT®, “KISHER" further told
WHITE that McCARTHY would Like very much to talk to BARMENE but had
been tinable to locate him and did not know where he lived or was emvoloyed.
WHITE asked BARMINE if he would mind WHITE giving this information to
"KISHER". BARMINE said he told WHITE that he did not desire that MeCARTHY
be advised ag ta his whereabouts: that what information he had was un-
corroborated and was already known to MeCARTHY, he apparently raving been
told by "KISMER". WHITE promised BARMINE that he would not advise "KISHER".
However, the following evening BARMING was telephonically contacted at
the VO& by one "SURINE", whanhe subsequently came to know as "DON" or
"DONALIASURINE” . ———
