States Department of State, Dy letter dated August 9, 1957, directed to the subject at 16 Jumel Terrace, New York City, advised him that at an informal hearing on May 29, 1957, the subject had refused to submit an affidavit under current passport regulations, refused to answer questions relating to Communist Party membership, refused to answer questions er to offer an explanation concerning participation in the affairs of Communist Party front organizations in the United States, refused to answer questions concerning close association with Communist functionaries in the United States and abroad and refused to answer questions or offer an explanation of his activities abroad in support of the Communist movement.
