Rumania, Bulgaria, the German Democratic Republic, the
Soviet Union, etc. In Bucharest he is going to attend
a conference on folk-music. The West is now much | ,
propagating a new type of individualistic music, discarding
traditions and classical music. ‘The apostles of this
new music forget that music is rooted in the people and
speaks to the people. MThe greatest composers, like Enescu,
Mussorgsky, Bartok, fully realized that. Robeson wishes
to sing Bartok in the course of his performances in
Hw:gary. Finally he said: 'I am very optimistic about
the future because those are in majority - Americans,
English, Russians, the peace-loving people of the world -
who are against war and who want peace".

Rumania, on August 24, 1959, PAUL ROBESON was quoted in the
press in an interview as stating that, starting this year
he hoped to “live six months in each of the people's
democracies". He said he would first return to Great Britain
to play in "Othello" on September 1, 1959, and would attend
a festival honoring "L'Humanite" in Paris, France, on
September 4, 1959, and would come to Rumania in November,
1959, where he would remain, at least in the beginning,
for about two months, He said he would then travel to the
