ROCKMORE that many people had made contributions to the COUNCIL and were
deducting thase contributions on their Income Tar returns,
ROCKMORE stated that while dedutions were not allowable for con-
tributions to organizations engaged for political or propaganda work, that —
he would contest the decis fon in an effort to help the cause of the
QCOUNCIL.

He further stated that he was fearful that the deduction was dis-
allowed bacausa the people in Washington had their ow dossier on the organ-

which the COUNCIL had received from the Revenue Department in order that
he could use it es a basis for his contest in the matter,
On the sama date, the Informant advised that MAX YERGAN conferred
with his Secretary, DIANNE;SOMMERS and requested her to send a copy of the
letter which hes had discussed with ROCKMORE.

The foregoing information is being forwarded to the Bureau and
it is suggested that the information be transmitted to the Office of the
Collector of Intarnal Revenue in connection with the PAUL ROBESON matter
and also in connection with the situation which now exists with respect
to the deductions allowed for contributions to the (COUNCIL ON AFRICAN
AFFAIRS.
The Bureau is also requested to forward to the New York Meld
Division any information which may be in the possession of the Bureau con-
cerning this matter,
