Communist Political Association, had been advised by BENJAMIN Je DAVIS,
or., that he, DAVIS, had talked with PAUL ROBESON relative to the DUCIOS
article in peears to the policies of the Communist Party in the United
States at that time and that ROBESON expressed himself as thintting that
| WILLIAM 2.“ FOSTER was correct in his thinking about the matter. It -—-—-~—--
will be noted that this relates to the break between many members of the
Commnist Party and EARYBROWDER which Later resulted in the overthrow of .
BRODER as head of the Comaunist Party in the United States.

During the period covered by this report considerable informa-
tion has been received by the New York Field Division reflecting that
the subject continues as Chairman of the Council on African Affairs.
Informants of this Office have advised of information reflecting that
ROBESON has during the past several months been engaged professionally
in concert tours throughout the United States as well as having made a
trip under the auspices of the uso to the European Theater.
Information furnished by these informants also reflects that
ie subject has apparently increasingly come under the control of MAX
ATERGAN, Executive Director of the Council on African Affairs, and known
asa leader in Communist front activities among the Negroes in the
United States. The informants from time to time have disclosed informa-
tion reflecting that YERGAN has occupied himself greatly to the extent
of arranging for appointments for the subject and his appearance before
numerous meetings sponsored by organizations known as Communist front
