During a telephonic conversation which Mr. Thom;son had with Special Agent in Charge Magee of the-New Orleans Office, he said that through the United States Attorney there in Net Orleans, he received a request for a conference with two Congressmen and one Seni.tor about tne gengster situation in Louisiana in the coming election. These gen take at once an extensive invectigation relative to the] Purple Gang, who ere reported to be in Louisiana to do some "dirty work" in connection with ‘he coning election on Januay 22, 1936. Mr. Magee said that these men had absolutely nothing definite, and it appeared thet they just sore or less eanted confiemetion or denial on the p:rt of Mr. Magee as to the presence of thi: yang in Louisiana so that it might be used for political vurposes.
