by the Executive Board members of the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee C
in the District Room of the Statler Hotel, 15th. and K Streets _Northwe
Washington, D. C.° During the conference a letter was released
addressed to President Truman and signed by "one hundred twenty.
Americans" which urged the President to issue directives bannin
aid to fascist Spain and instructing the State Department to support th
continuation of sanctions impdsed by the United Nations on ‘Franco in Dacember
1946.
Among the signers of this letter was Professor Robert S. Lynd,
Hew y York, New York. a
& Press Release of the Joint Anti~Fascist Refugee Committes, 80.
Madison Avenue, New York, New York, dated June 7, 1950, was also obtained by
the Agent who attended this conference.’ It referred to the open letter $
President Truman signed by Professor Robert S. Lynd, Columbia University and
others which letter was released by eleven executive board members of the
JeAsF.R.C. who were about to serve prison terms for contempt of the House
Un~american Activities Committee. Photostatic copies of these documents are”
contained in this Bureau fils.
