z. ES In reference to the above conference scheduled on 5/26-28/67, _ known as the National Conference of Negro Elected Officials (62-111534), _,Dr. John A. Morsell, Roy Wilkins' assistant, advised on 5/19/67 that he was aware of this conference only through public source material, He stated that to his knowledge, Wilkins would not be a speaker and was not expected to attend. 62-111534-7 encl.p.1 The 6/2/67 issue of the "Rocky Mountain News," Denver, Colo., stated that the Sundiata (105-173904) Club in Denver had sponsored the appearance of LeRoi Jones, Negro playwright, on 6/1/67, at the Manual High School. In his speech Jones denounced Negro leaders like Whitney Young and Roy Wilkins. Jones had special words of derision for Negroes who failed to fight backagainst “white devils." 1052173904-3 encl.p.2 On 6/11/67 a television program entitled “After Civil Rights - Black Power" appeared over NBC, narrated by Sander Vanocur. Roy Wilkins was among those interviewed. He stated his opposition to tying civil rights in with the peace movement. He declared that civil rights must be sought all the time, in war and peace. 100-446080-324 encl.p.5 ey George J. Livingston, executive secretary of the Cleveland Chic branch of the NAACP, announced that on 6/11/67, in Cleveland, Roy Wilkins would speak at a rally at the construction site of Cuyahoga Community College and later would lead a demonstration to the constructi site of Cleveland State University where the NAACP membership would picket, This demonstration was held to protest discrimination in the hiring of workers on construction projects financed by the government. , (3) aw 2 SERRE
