Camera Surveillance Most of the interstate systems in Northern Virginia are monitored by video cameras, - These cameras are controlled by the STC in Arlington. These cameras are capable of being tumed in any direction, and they can be panned or zoomed as necessary. They can also be used fo record by the touch of a single button. Just a few days ago special high fech equipment was added to enhance resolution and recording capability of multiple cameras simultaneously. Traffic Management Should another event occur, as quickly as possible a decision will be made by a command level-manager to Shut down-a particular portion of interstate. Ifyou receive this instruction you will be joined very quickly by additional resources. Traffic on the interstate at your location will be brought fo a stop as quickly and safely as possible. This will be accomplished by first activating your emergency equipment. As soon as the “shut down* location is identified, other police units located priar fo your location will be notified to pull out into traffic with their emergency equipment activated and establish positions in as many lanes as possible. When each Jane or nedyly each lane is occupied by a police vehicle, traffic will be graduailly slowed until you reach the "shut down" location. At this point all police vehicles will stop within their traffic lanes. Once traffic is stopped the units occupying the outermost lanes will exit their vehicles and hold the traffic until the trooper/s in the center lane/s can reposition their vehicles to create a “V” formation as demonstrated on the ext page.
