The "Times-erald” and "Washington Post" on September 5, 19525
revealed that the Civil Service Comnisston hed announced that de
Faas had been served with a notice of suspenston for refusing to
answer questions asked by its representatives dealing with "leaks"
of confidential data from the Loyalty Review Boarde The articles.
reflected that de Haas had been called to testify vefore the
grand jury on March 18, 1952, ond April 8, 1952. It was pointed
out in these articles that the Civil Service Commission had
petitioned the District Court for a copy of the testimony of de
Haas before the grand jury which was investigating a leak of
confidential information from the Loyalty Review Board. The peti-
tion of the Civil Service Commiasion to the District Court reflects
that there were 15 instances of the release of unauthorized infor=
matton and that (718s de #oas hed been questioned about each cf
them on July 49, 1952, at which time she ztther refused to ansucr
or gave evasive replies. The "Times-erutd" in September, 1952,
carried articles concerning de Haas captiuned "Inguisitorsa Hid
True Motives for Harassing Missa de Haas" and "U, 8. Worker Harried
After Blow at Reds." It was pointed out in the "Washington Star"
for Getober 7, 1952, that District Judge Yatthew F, McGuire tod
refused to open for Civil Service Camnis3stion examinatton the
menutes of the Federal grand jury investigating leakage of the
Loyalty Review Torrd proceedings, The "“limes-Herald™ for
October 25, 1958, reflects that the Civil Service Commission hid
given de Haas a 5 day notice of dismissal, Vhe "Times-Herald”
for November 4, 1¢52, reyslects tha* de lings had resigned yesteraay
(Novenber 3, 1952) and thet the Civil Seruice Commissicn announced
that the resignation had been accepted,
The "Times-Herald" on Novenbder £, 1952, contains an open
letter of de Heaa: "To My Dear Fellow-Anericans™ in which she
stated that as an employee of the Loyalty feview Board she had
endeavored tea bring some of the information concerning the
Communist conspiracy in our Government to the attention "of our
representatives in Congress, tn the hope that somehow the Conmuntst
termites coula be cleaned out of our National structure before it
collapses from withing ™ che stated that she had seen to it that
pertinent injfornation was made available to Senator McCarthy as
well as other menhers of Congress, She suid that McCarthy had no
reasen to know the source of hia information. She gave praise to
"our wonderful FRI," She concluded her letter by stating ".sseus
