CONTINUED On 4/20/68, CLARENCE JONES discussed with LEVISON a rally for Senator EUGENE.MC CARTHY to be held at Madison Square Garden on 5/19/68, and the fact that the MC CARTHY people wanted to invite CORETTA KING to attend and receive a collection to be taken up for the PPC. On 4/21/68, WALTER FAUNTROY, Washington, D.C. representativeof the SCLC, accepted the Chairmanship of the meeting to be held 4/22/68, at the Carnegie International Center, NYC, the purpose of which is to formulate a legislative program for the PPC. ANDREW YOUNG and RALPH ABERNATHY were to attend this conference. This information was furnished tothe Bureau and interested offices by airtel and LHM dated 4/23/68, captioned, "MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.; SCLC - RACIAL MATTERS", 5/4/68 On this date, WILLIAM RUTHERFORD, Executive Director of the SCLC and STANLEY LEVISON discussed the PPC. RUTHERFORD was critical of the lack of cooperation for the PPC on the part of the union with which the striking garbage men in Memphis are affiliated and LEVISON agreed with him. LEVISON was critical of ANDREW YOUNG for not having contacted the Field Foundation which had earmarked $275,000.00 (apparently for civil rights causes and the SCLC in particular). LEVISON also was critical of the SCLC leadership and said the office should be run along business lines. LEVISON also agreed to prepare speeches for ABERNATHY at ABERNATHY's request.
