the telephone surveillance on the residence of Stanley David ss

adviser to the late Martin Luther King, Jr. Since King'
death he has continued to advise King's widow and the current
leadership of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
(SCLC). Levison is currently one of the "Directors" of the
SCLC according to the organization's publication.

On July 8, 1969, the installation furnished information
concerning @ discussion between Levison and Andrew Young,
Executive Vice President of the SCLC, concerning the strike of
hospital workers in Charleston, South Carolina, in which the
SCLC had become involved. A settlement of the strike was
imminent but hospital officials did not want to put anything
in writing about rehiring the striking workers. Levison told
Young not to let this point stand in the way of the settlement
since it would not be possible to mobilize the community on an
issue @5 abstract as having something in writing. They also
discussed the possibility that Ralph Abernathy, SCLC President,
has a mental or emotional illness and should seek psychiatric
