On July 27, 1969, Young asked Levison to edit an article Young was writing and they discussed the future plans of the SCIC, including plans that the SCLC should become politically active in Charleston, South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia, in the Fall of 1969. They egreed that the SCLC should now become involved in the realm of black political and economic power. At the national convention of the SCIC in August, 1969, it was announced that the SCLC was to embark upon a program of unity with the labor movement. This installation has furnished information about Levison's. part in the form _ lation of this program. Abernathy also announced at the convention that counseling young men to evade the draft would be initiated and a Peace Committee would be formed in the SCLC. The organization approved a committee to coordinate expressions of support for candidates in political campaigns. This infor- mation takes on added significance in view of Abernathy's alleged mental condition and Levison's influence, and the coverage provided by this source is necessary to follow Levison's part in these developments.
