FARMERS FACE GRISIS IN JaP LABOR OUSTER.
State Asked to Bring 800 Workers From Midweat to
Replace Orientals Banned by Law.
Plans to bring white workers into California from the
Middle West to replace Japanese who have Aeen ousted from agricultural
lends by the “crop contract" aneninent/of the anti-alien 4and law,
recently upheld by the United States Supreme Court, were presented
teday, Hov.29th, to George H. Hooke » Btate Agricultural dirsctor,
by a committee of Northern Californis agriculturists.
The majority of the middle westernefs, under this plan,
will be used to supplant Japansse in Placer County, where the State
law prohibits approximately 1,800 Orientals from oontinuing their
prasctioe of ocoupying and cultivating iands owned by white men ona
erop share basis.
