POLITICAL
On March 23, 1979, the Honorable James Thompson,
Governor of Illinois, 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago,
Illinois, advised he has known the applicant since about
ten years ago, about the time he went to Congress for the
first time. They belong to opposing political parties
and he has known the applicant on the political scene
in Chicago. His Honor does not recall actually being
in court against the applicant but hé knows by reputation
that the applicant is a very outstanding member of the
bar who has earned an excellent reputation as a
brilliant, capable and effective practicing attorney.
He was a very good law student who graduated high in
his class at the University of Chicago. He has proven
himself in the political arena winning some close hard
fought contests. He is an outstanding person as a
lawyer, aS a politican and he also enjoys an excellent
reputation personally as a man of good character and a
patriotic citizen. This is a man fully capable of ful-
filling the duties of a judge on the prestigious U.S.
Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He
recommended him for such an appointment.
