Re ACTI VITIES ON THE OBANION FARM NEAR COLDWATER,.KANSAS. Dear Sir. By letter dated January 10, 1939,Mr.WILLIAM H. DAvaNpoRt, Supervising Agent of the Kansas City, Missouri, Division of the United States Secret Service, advised the Kansas City Field Division that an Agent of the Seoret Service had been told by City Detective ED CUNNINGHAM, Hutohinson, Kensas, that he had receivsd information that a Mr. O*BANioN the.father of a former Chicago gangster, now lives on a farm near Coldwater, Kansas, at which place suspicious aotivities have been noted and the farm is considered a possible rendeyvous. for criminals. DDD 34858-2 Speoial Agent H. O. HAwKINS was advised by City Detective ED CUNNINGHAM that former Sheriff J. OVEROCKER.of Coldwater, Kansas, had advised him that suspicious actiyities had taken place on the abandoned farm indioating on several occasions that planes have landed there, and that numerous. expensive automobiles were also observed on the farm,-Further that conversation with a grandchild of O BANion indicated that some of the men who visited O'BANION's farm had a gun with a silencer. On July 22, I939, Sheriff GEORGE WILLIAMS, Coldwater, Kansas,advised Special Agent J. W. CoRE of this office that. CHARLES o:BANION owns a farm twenty-two miles southeast of Coldwater, and that former Shgriff OveRocksR also owns a farm in the same vioinity. Sheriff wILLIAMS stated that CHAREES O'BANION, the father of DION O'BANION former Chicago gangster, has lived in Coldwater, Kansas, for the last twelve or thirteen years, during which time he has spent praotically all of his time in Coldwater. For the first two or three years O'BANION had an Italian body guard, who was with him all of the time,. however, it has been approximately ten years since this body guard disappeared and has never since been back.
