He was a student in the College of Arts and Sciences
at George Washington University, Washington, D. C., from
September, l92l, until June, l92l, at which time he withdrew
of his own accord. He entered the law school of this university
in September, 1924, and was awarded an LL.B. degree in June, l928.

From 192l to l925 he was a clerk in the office of his.
father, Edwin Fremont Ladd, who was a Senator from the State of.
North Dakota at that time. During this time, for a period of.
about one year, he also acted as clerk for the Committee on
Public Lands, United States Senate, of which his father was the
chairman.
He was employed as a subway car operator on the
United States Senate subway, Washington, D. C., from l925 to
1928.----In the.afternoons, during this period, he supervised.
