He carson 4 SUBJECT: Ovasaue ORGANIZATION CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANTS You will recall by arrangements with President-Aguirre, Basque Government in exile in New York City, the Basque throughout Latin America are being utilised as informants. By agreement the Basque legders in South America are permitted to forward to Aguirre . acnrgein el spondence through the Bureau which is chiefly informative nature. Special Agent (mee in New York advised that Antonio Irela, the representative of Aguirre in New York, had stated that the Basque are now intensely interested in the Spanish Government in exile which is headquartered in Mexico City and in fact are participating in this Government. Irala stated that the Basque would probably be forwarding to Aguirre certain political information concerning this Government through the Bureau's facilities and that he wanted to determine whether this was satisfactory with the see as previous material handled related to Axis activities, etc , was advised it would be satisfactory if political information of an intelligence nature were forwarded by the Basque, it being noted that the Bureau gets copies of all these commnications.
