Assosiation of Amerioa and the Washington Heights Center (Branches 91, 92, amd
410). The program was described as @ BERTOLT BRECHT evening at which BRSCHT
would render some of his new poems. Other persons participating with BRECHT
were listed a ELIZABETH BENGWEK, HFRTHANGLAZ, GRETA-WILLELS, HURBF.2? SERGHOF ,
MIELAND JERZPELDE. FRIEDRICH GEORGENALEXAN was to direct the program, which * .
was described as a “closed” meeting tO which members of the above organisations
were invited.
Source GR a0 advised that on May 10, 1943, BEXT BXECHT cooperated
in putting on a program in honor of the tenth anniversary of the burning of
books on the same date in 1933, according to another advertisenent sppearing™
in the May 7, 1943, iasue of “Aufbau.” According to this advertfiisenent, the
- program was held at the Studio Theate@, 66 test 12th Street, New York. Other
persons cooperating in this program afe not being repeatod here. This program
was also under the direction of FRIEDKICH GEORGE ALEXAE, and it appears that
the Joint Committee for the Reatoration of Burned and danished Books in Europe,
the New School for Soc ial Research, Die Tribune Fuer Freie Deutsche Literatur
und Kunst, and other organizations were sponsors of the progran.

This source advised that on about Nay 16, 1943, BERT BKECHT returned
to Santa Monica, California, from New York City. This source reflects that in
May 1945 telephone calls made from the BRECHT residence for the previous three
months had been ascertained. It will be noted that this period coincides with
that during which BRECHT was in New York. Among the persons called from the
BRECHT residence during this time were PETEK LOKKE, ALEXAMDR!! GRANACE, Mre.
HEINRICH QANN, LUDWIGNARCUSE, WILLIAM DIETERLE, and OSCARNHOMOLK.

Informant to the effect that on the evening of tay 29, 1943, a meeting,
the nature of which was unknown, was held at the residence of BERT BRECRT. .
According to this source, Pat TS KORTWER was present at this meeting.

enthusiasm over the Free German Comittee in Moscow and the manifesto issued |
by 1%, and has indicated himself as being in favor of supplanting the Mast
governeent with a Commnist government. He is also know to be a friend of Yg
OTTO KATZ, but reportedly broke with KATZ politically in March 1940. Bis
name appeared in the notebook of GRECORI KHEIFETS, who will be described... -
