He recalls that HUDGINS subsequently took him to one side and informed him that they needed to locate the luggage quickly as that in one of the boxes was a "hand-made silver. laden saddle" that SHALLOUF was bringing back to "Mr. CARTER" and that it was engraved and had his name on it. HUDGINS further added that SHAL: as bringing it as a gift for "him" from his country. stated that he informed HUDGINS that they gave the same expedite service to all their passengers. that ‘he subsequently had another Bx employee Completed the necessary information to fill ou e mishandled baggage record form. OR -.-2 that during most of the time when attempting to locate the saddle in question, he was under the assumption that the saddle was for President CARTER BIC -although nothing was actually stated to that effect. He had several, conversations. since the initial contact atthe, airport telephonically with Senator .HUDGINS aswell as : SHALLOUF inquiring as to the status of the saddle and he recalls in particular that during one telephone conversation SHALLOUF had invited him to a gathering that was to be had in Atlanta at which time SHALLOUF informed him that BILLY CARTER would be there andit was at that time that he began to realize that the. saddle was actually intended for BILLY CARTER rather than the President. He stated that when the saddle was eventually located by air freight service, he is quite sure that it was turned over to United States Customs. He advised that to his knowledge there was no handling of the saddle at HIA and that it would have come through Dulles in Washington, D.C. He added that he does not know if the saddle even came into Atlanta, but that if it did, it was merely turned around and returned to Dulles Airport for Customs.
