POLICE CCOPERATION at Te bet
The Los Angeles Police pepartwent, continues its investigation into
the unsolved murder of ELIZARETH SEORT. On Tebruary 25, 1952, Lieutenant
KARL IEE, Homicide Division, Los Angeles Police Department, called attention
to the article entitled, "The Master Impostor: fn Incredible Tele," written
under the by-line of JOE MC GARTH which vas published in the January 28,
1952, issue of "Life" Magegjne . page 79. This article s tne

surgical operations im the Koreen area, although he has had no formal meaical
education, anc. wes an impostor using the credentials of Dr. CYP, of Grand
Falls, New Brunswick, Canada.
Tae article mentions that DEMAFA's home is on State Street, Lavrence,
Massachusetts, the residence of his parents. ke is about 30 years of age.
The magazine account of DEM(EA's activities contains an admission by him
that he had been arrestea by FBI agents in or near Olympia, Washington, as
a deserter from the t, €. Navy, dates not ;,iven, possibly while he was employed
as en instructor of psychology at St. Martin's College, Lacey, Washington.
He was then shipped, according to the story, to the U. S. Disciplinary 3arracks
in Sen Pedro, California, during which time it was alleged that the U. S. Lray
“caught up with him end discharged him as a deserter from that military service.
He allegedly conducted his own defense at the Navy court-martial, yet was
unsuccessful end spent 18 months in the disciplinary barracks. Upon his
release it was alleged that he then returned to the residence of his parents ee sae
in Lawrence, /'assacnusetts.

sanatarium of the Brothers of St. John of God in Los Angeles, California,
prior to the time he traveled to the state of ‘.ashington, where he was
apprehended on the desertion charge. Lt. Iki hes stated thet it is possible
DEMAEA was at the sanatarium under the nane of Lr. KOBERT L. NCH. The whe
Los Angeles Police Department does not heve the dates of this service at the ~}
sanatarium, Waich institution is anperently located at 2h45 South vestern Avenue,
