The “Charlotte Observer" in its issue of May 29,
1969, a newspaper of general circulation, Charlotte, North
Carolina, in an article concerning a raid at 316 South
Turner Avenue which described the place as the residence for
the local group seeking affiliation with the Black Panvher
Party (BPP) meets, quoted one TONY ALFRED as saying that he
asked an officer for a warrant and "he just told me ‘shut up
nigger’ and pointed the shotgun at me", The articie continued
on to quote ALFORD in other statements indicating membership
in the group known as the potential BPP.

On June 6, 1969, a complaint and motion for temporary
restraining order and preliminary injunction was filed in
U. S. District Court, Charlotte, North Carolina, by GEORGE S.
DALY, Attorney for American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The
Plaintiffs in the suit allege harassment by representatives
of the Charlotte, North Carolina, Police Departrent; Mecklenburg
County, North Carolina, Police Department; State Bureau of
Investigation; Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division, U. 8S.
Treasury Department and the FBI.
