BOMBING OF SIXTEENTH STREET BAPTIST. CHURCH. ies
_BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, 9/15/63 ft af
“RACIAL MATTERS”
As I was leaving the building for lunch today, I ran into the
Attorney General. He stopped and asked how the investigation was going
in Birmingham with reference to the bombing there.
I told him that as he knew we were conduct ing the most
intense and exhaustive investigation possible but that there was nothing
which could be reported. He asked if we had any good leads. I informed
him that we were running ait every possible lead, of which there were
hundreds. The Attorney General then said, more in the nature of a
statement than a question, "But you don't have anything good. "
‘ Deputy Secretary of Defense Gilpatric then came up and the
Attorney General just said "Good~by" and left.
