Pointed out to Olney that had there been any facts furnished

intimidate he could be assured that we would have very
willingly conducted an inmedtate and complete investigation of
the situation.

were any issues involved in either of these tro situations which
he was bringing to my attention, but that the purpose of
discussing the matter with me was that there had been hurt

in the interests of harmony he wanted to discuss this natter
with me so that in the event there was an entirely plausible
explanation on my part, he could set his People strainht and
allay any erroneous attitude existing on the part of ony of
his people. I told Mr. Olney that I would be in touch with hin
and I immediately contacted Messrs. Rosen anc Winterrowds got
the tickler copies of the cover memoranda and = Departmental

I discussed the sttuation with Messrs. Rosen -and ------~-------
Winterrowd and immediately thereafter telephonically contacted
Mr. Olney and acvised him that with reference to the Anastasio
situation, very clearly the word "undermine" in the clause "it
would appecr the United States Attorney was endeavoring to
‘undermine! the Judge," was the comment of the USA, being one
of the reasons why the USA declined to discuss the requested
