Kim and J still exchange letters,
but these days usually through my
lawyer,
He has no doubt done some
wicked things in his life, but I am
Not very concerned with questions
of Patriotism or treason. 1 do not
see that it is up to me, his wife, to
praise or blame him for his politics.
T remember him as a tender,
intelligent and sentimental hus-
band. J am sure that he must still
have some of these qualities, even
though 1 am no longer there to
enjoy them.
He betrayed many people, me
among them. But men are not
always masters of their fate. Kim
had the guts, or the weakness, to
stand by a decision made 30 years
ago, whatever the cost to those who
loved him most, and to whom he,
too. was deeply attached.
He does not like pop music, but
a while ago I sent him a Beatles
record—* Help!" I thought it was
appropriate; but } am not sure
whether it best describes his situ-
ation—or mine.
