A, gee The "New York Times" of April 20, 1949, published an erticle
ceptioned "Charge by House Unit Denied by Communist." The article re-
ported that Richard 0. Boyer, Communist rriter, charged that the House
Committee on Un-American Activities made a remark about him in en effort
to discredit the Culture] and Scientific Conference for World Pesce held
in March 1949, #t the Waldorf-Astoria. It was further steted that the
House Committee aeserted thet Mr. Boyer had advocated civil discbecience
at a conference session to an audience that included Dr. ‘lbert Einstein,
Dr. Harlow William Shapley and other scientists, some of them engaged in
atomic work. Mr. Boyer stseted that neither Dr. Einstein, Dr. Shapley
nor the other scientists mentioned by th» Committee were rresent when
this paper res read. :
