-3- ) Apparently since the cnd of August a non-step campaign ayainst the LIA has been proceeding. During this period there hve been frequent reports of the capture of home-made guns and the arrest of LFA su:pects. Sone 160 or so people have been sen- tenced for illesal oathiny and another sixty convicted on charges of being in illegal possession of 250 arms and st roucds of ammenition. The arcas affected include those of Nakuru, Molo, Kericho and Kiavhu, Many of the gun-cache discoveries and arrests heve been made on Furopean ovncd farms and this has caused some African lead- ers to suggest that Europeans have been bribing their farm hands ‘to take oaths and make guns. These allegations are being investigated by the Ministry of Defence, but in the meantime they have unloubtedly caused &@ worsening in race relations.
