$chool of’ Socizl Science (CSSS}, located at 333 West North
Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, was organized by the Communist
Party (CP} o2 Illinois Zaucztieral Commission in iste 1960.
A School Committee consisting of eight CP members of the
Educational Commission was formed to conduct the day-to-
day activities of the school, At that time, DAVE ENCLESTEIN,
Education Director, CP 92 iilirois, had over-all responsibili-
in forming policy of the operation of the school.

During the summer of 1961, the Educational Commissi
and School Committee of ths CP of Illinois were dissolved as :
Fesult of the Supreme Court decision on the Internal Security
Act of 195G. Since that time, LOU DISKIN, member, CP of ©
Tllinois, and leadership representatives of the West Side
&ren, CP of Tlliucis,.and DAVE ENGLESTEIN have beer primerily
responsible for the operation or tke CSSS.
The aims of the school to instruct Communists in
Marxism-Leninism and to provide a basis of contemporary
subjects which would attract non-CGommunists have not changed,
and classes are stiil being taught by members cf the CP of
Illinois. : . ;
