C o3i- i) with these activities as having “Lunched that day with the Red Leader, Steve Nelson, while planning the schedule for the afternoon session," We have received many reports similar to the above from Friends and non-Fricnds who have attended Service Committee Institutes. INDIVIDUAL STATEMENTS . Because they contain pertinent statements and points of view, not mentioned or sufficiently emphasized hereinbefore, we are adding the mpers presented by E, Merrill Root, Dwight W, Michener, J. Kennedy Sinclaire and the late C, farshall Taylor at the mecting with the Service Committee in November, 1958. STAT RILL ROOT . During the last few years I have been increasingly disturbed by the policies and the activities of the American Friends Service Committee,' Ihave come to the conclusion that, if this is the official policy and activity of the Society of “~ Friends, I shall have to dissociate myself from the Society of Fricnds, This is not merely a personal conclusion. Friends in the Middle West huve come to me to ask what they can do to protest the policies and the 2c tivities of . the Service Committee, They have said that they deeply deplore the i and activities, but they can find no way in which their protest is listene acted on. It seems to confuse individual love and charity with the processes of the New Cacsar of the streamlined sword, In its conferences and its publications, it substitutes the politics of time for the polities of Eternity. Specifically, again and again, it Sponsors propayan of collectivism, as apostles of peace and justice. In its conferences and publicas tions, it confuses a Christian pacifism with an un-Christian passivisim, a true love for the sinner with a false appearsement of the sin. It co es a desire to remain at p ce h the Russian people with an apology for the most terrible slayve- state ‘in human history. it seems to uphold collectivism as the only way to social justice, and the Communist state as ayenuine agent of social justice, The Service Committee (I believe) is intellectually wrong and morally eels 2 DLS in this emphasis, But even if it is intellectually right and mo rally sound,
