I feel that because of the Ke lopinents as of late that there is a possibility there's going to awful lot of activity, there’s going to be an awful lot of strike activity, there’s a possibility that there’s going to be a general strike in California this summer or perhaps the next coming summer, people are restless, they’re beginning to organize by themselves, some- thing that’s never happened before. As you recall, in ail the attempts to organize workers, there has to be the need of a labor organizer. We find now that people are getting together, and they want action. They want to have a change. hey want the better things of life. They want to become full Americans in the sense that they have the rights of other workers. And so I’m not saying this as a threat, but Tsce there is unrest, and I see that we are perhaps going to rience in California to begin with the sort of demonstration, I guess, that the Negro had to have before he got his legislation. I feel that there’s going to be in California many of the farmworkers, particularly the Filipino and the Mexican, com- ing together to have strikes and to demonstrate and to let the whole country know that, of course, things are not right, and that he deserves a better chance. Senater Morrxr. I have one more question, Mr. Chairman. Now, your organization is a Jabor organization, right? Is it affiliated with the AFL-CIO? Mr. Cuavez. No, it is not affiliated. It is an independent ‘group. Under the Federal law we’re not even considered to be a labor organiza- tion. Senator Mcreuy. You’re not. In other words, you've never filed with the U.S. Department of Labor reports that are required by law? Mr. Cravez. Yes, I did. I filed 2 report—that’s the Landrum- Griffin report. ves.
