On 8/6/66, a check in amount of $1,000 was presented to EUGENE NELSON, organizer of marchers representing National Farm Workers Union, by HIRAM MOON, area Director, UAW, Dallas, Texas, at Mathis, Texas. The presentation was made at a rally for the marchers, held at Mathis, Texas, on 8/6/66, attended by approximately 800 persons. NELSON said that Inter- national UAW has been contributing $2500 a month to the National Farm Workers Association at Delano, California. The Rio Grande Valley marchers voted recently to become a branch of the National Farm Workers Union. NELSON stated the Rio Grande marchers were given a $1,000 check by PAUL MONTEMAYOR, Staff Representative for two Corpus Christi locals of the United Steel Workers Union. The protest march of the Rio Grande Valley farm workers is scheduled to resume from Mathis at noon yrekTuesday, August 9, 1966.
