Antibiotic MICs for Y. pestis are currently being determined. The true test of the effectiveness of any antibiotic is the ability to contribute to a successful treatment in an infection model. The working hypothesis is that if B. anthracis, B. mallei or Y. pestis were used ina biowarfare/terrorist situation these microorganisms would most likely be resistant to the current antibiotics that are designated for treatment. The objective of this protocol is to identify additional antibiotics that could be used as alternate treatments should resistance to current treatments occur.
