@ The May 19, 1967, edition of the Valley Mornin;
Star, a daily newspaper published in Harlingen, Vexesy
carries an article which states that State Representative
Lauro Cruz of Houston, Texas, on May 15, 1967, hai introduced
a resolution in the Texas House of Representatives asking
Texas Governor John Connally to renove the Texas angers from
the Rio Grande City area because of “intimidation and
harassment." The'’same newspaper carries another article
which states [rnest Cortes, Jr.; Boyectt Coordinator of the
UFWOC, had issued a statement protesting the arrest of the
22 pickets, saying the presence of the Texas Rangers in Rio
Grande City is "a crude attempt at union busting."
