Still in varying stages of construction are the biochemical pharmacology and medicinal chemistry units. Personnel : Since the last report, the section has been joined by Drs. - ' " ' _ C- as planned. It is anticipated that two to three more investigators at the .doctoral level will be needed, probably one *% more clinical pharmacologist, a medicinal chemist, and a biochemical pharmacologist. Two engineers have been employed for design and con- struction of new equipment and six lab assistants are now fully trained to their various jobs. Human subjects : Liaison with UeLw ^Jersey-State Reformatory— Bordentown has been excellent, and a full complement of volunteers from that insti- tution has been freely available. This group may be a better group for this Kind of research, since they may be closer to the normal population than were the Atlanta prisoners, the latter being recidivists and older than the Boxndentown' group. In addition, other human volunteers have been recruited, including female subjects, so that the population of « "normal" subjects available is now much more nearly representative of the population at large. In addition, it has been possible already to begin explorations with the psychotic patients from the experimental ward, and some interesting results are already forthcoming (see below). Equipment: Since the last report, the section has obtained a stereo- taxic apparatus, a Grass Model III EEG, and a Sanborn 2000 magnetic tape Data Recorder. In addition, we have ‘constructed two new integrators for quantitative EEG; these are modeled after the Drohocki Integrator’; but due to some circuit changes are more linear’, and have the advantage of using all USA -made parts, so that maintenance is simplified.
