Apparently since the cnd of August @ nou-step campaign against the LVA has been proceeding. During this period there hive been frequent reports of the capture of home-made guns and the arrest of LYA su:pects. Sone 100 ar so people have been sen- tenced for illesal oathings and another sixty convicted on charses of beines in illegal possession of 250 arms and ot rounds of ammunition. The arcas affected include those of Nakuru, “Molo, Kericho and Kiavbu, Many of the gun-cache discoveries and arrests have been made on Purepein owned farms and this has caused some African lend- ers to susnest that Eurupeuns have been brivina their farm hands ‘to tale oaths and make gens. These allegations are being investigated by the Ministry of Defence, but in the meantime they have unleubtedly caused a worsening in race relations. In a Legictiative Council debate a few days apo, the acting Minister for Defence talked of successful action against LY, but stressed ‘We are not out ef the wood yvet.'' He went on to say that althourh the LFA Ass pretty well confined to the Kikuyu tribe, only a small minority of that tribe were involved.
