KEMPTER dated August 3, : 1913, relates that in 1935 a literary marine "Das Wort" (The word) was pub- lished, and it bore the signatures of BERT BRECHT, LION FEUCHTWANGER, and fILLIZSREDL as the editors. This mgazine was published ty a group of ~ political refugees who fled Germany after the Reichstag fire on February 27, 1933, to Ruseia. This group of political refugees included many Communist deputies and writers, some of whom were leaders in the Communist Party. FEUCHTWANGER is @ German refugee writer with Commmist sympathies. Eo ie presently in Los Angeles collaborating with BERT BRECHT and HANS EISLER in the Pree German Movement. Concerning WILLI BREDL, available informtion appearing in the Hamburg People's Newspaper reflects that in 1923 BREDL participated in a Communist revolt in Hamburg. After HITLER came to power, BREDL was put into @ concentration camp for a year or more. During the Spanish Civil mr, BREDL was in the International Brigade. He is presently (Ootober 2, 19k) a manber of the Free German (comittes in Moscow, and artioles prepared by him appeared in “Freiesdeutschland” the official organ of the Free German Movement emmnating from Mexice. A telegram from the Washington Field Office dated August 1&, 1947, reflects that subject had been issued « re-entry permit on March 11, 1947, to wisit Switzerland, France, Sweden, Denmark, and Italy for 18 months for the purpose of negotiations with theater owners and publishing houses. His address abroad was given as care of Fraesens fiims, Weinbergatr 15 durich, Switzerland. In a letter to the Bureau, it was reported that subject was pre- poring to leave the United States in September, 19:7, for Switzerland and to go from te Germany. on October , 1947, advised that BRECHT has been in Jew York for the last three weeks, preparing to leave the United States for Switseriand and Italy where the piay, "The Galileo” is going to be produced as 6 motion picture. ‘this informant 0180 advised that BRECHT has been intimately assooiated with HAMS EISLER in the writing and production af - plays, songs, and motion pictures both here, in the United States, and in Germany prior to 1933.
