No mention was made of the FBI and no Federal violation was apparent at the time indicated. (1933) = 8 a 7 a Briefly the show opened with the usual murders of several law enforceme: _ Officers who are guarding armored trucks which were carrying the gate receipts from a famous world championship fight. From the method of operation, the police theorized that the perpetrators of the crime were a man and woman whom they had nicknamed the “love birds." Ness and "The Untouchables" are requested by the New York authorities t assist in the investigation. Their first break comes when one of the robbers who assiste __ the "love birds" and who was, wounded in the ensuing fight is "dumped" by Joe "Sheik" Humphrey, the male part of the "love birds." Humphrey tries to kill this individual; however, he lives and tells the police and Ness the other members of the gang... _ . - Doreen Maney, the female part of the "love birds" takes Humphrey and . the surviving member of the gang, Len Carson, and attempts to hide at her-father'g farm in Tennessee. With the information received from the disposed gang member, Nes visits Doreen's father in Tennessee; however, he is spotted and Carson, Humphrey and Doreen hide. At this point in the play, Humphrey is shown “making time" with @ - Doreen's sister, Maybelle. As soon as Ness leaves, Carson, Humphrey and Doreen © decide to also abandon her father's home as a hideout. Ness, who was suspicious of _ Maybelle's nervousness, spots their car and a chase follows. son and Hi hre escape and Doreen is picked up. Doreen becomes jealous of-Humphrey's.attention towards her sister and vows to get even with him. Ness takes a calculated rigk in _ allowing Doreen to escape and then follows her to a bus depot where Doreen had placed . -the money in a locked box. Humphrey shows up and Doreen "cons" him out of his gun while he goes to get the money.
