7 | 7 compre RE: DEMONSTRATIONS PROTESTING APPEARANCE OF VICE-PRESIDENT HUBERT H. HUMPHREY, ETC. On July 1, 1968, "The Plain Dealer", local daily newspaper in Cleveland, Ohio, carried an article in which Reverend CHARLES RAWLINGS , chairman of a group.known as Clergy and Laymen Concerned About Vietnam, stated that his organization would also demonstrate against the Vice-President during his visit to Cleveland. Between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM on July 1, 1968, Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) observed approximately fifty-five (55) persons participating in a picket line at the corner of Lakeside Avenue and East 6th Street opposite the Cleveland City Hall. The demonstrators carried placards bearing slogans opposing the war in Vietnam and Vice-President HUMPHREY's support of this war. The picket line marched in an orderly manner and no incidents were observed. At one point during the demonstration, TED DOSTAL attempted to cross Lakeside Avenue en route to the City Hall, but was restrained from doing so by uniformed officers of the Cleveland Police Department. At the conclusion of the demonstration a representative of the Cleveland Police Department advised that no arrests had been made by his department. The following persons were identified by Special Agents of the FBI as participants in the demonstration in front of Cleveland City Hall during the evening of July.1, 1968: DAVID PRINCE, MARTA PRINCE, DENNIS SWEETENHAM, MARCIA SWEETENHAM, RICK KATZ, DAVID WULP, JOHN MC CANN, SANDY REINHERZ, ROBERT SCHWARTZ and BARBARA GREGORICH,. All of the foregoing were identified by CV T-3 on July. 1, 1968, as current members of the SWP in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to the above, the following persons were also observed by Special Agents of the FBI as participants in the demonstration on July 1, 1968: MIKE WELTE -
