ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE af Lege! Coun.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA G Tetechone Rm.
Director Sec'y
My memorandum of March 1, 1974, captioned as
above, acvised of a call by Ambassador Hoffacker, Working
Group, Cabinet Committee to Combat Terrorism, regarding
request for a discussion by various individuals concerning
contingencies that might occur in the Hearst kidnaping,
Memorandum noted that Ambassador Iloffacker had been in
contact with Jeff Shepphard, White House representative
with the Working Group, .
Ambassador Hoffacker contacted me the evening of
March 1, 1974, and stated that Mr. Shepphard had amlled back
and advised that the White House position was that they are.
more than satisfiec with the FBI handling of this matter and
thought that it should be left as it is, They felt that the
?
FBI would be aware of any terrorist involvement and yas ‘.
capable cf handling any contingencies of this type. He ~
further felt that Federal agents should not be sent to the iN
West Coast in this regard and” that such ‘a conference would ss
not add anything to the investigation, 2 ONY
Ambassador Hoffacker so advised the office of the -
Attorney General of the State of California who registered NN
disczppointment. Ambassador Hoffacker stated that-he has also
' brought this to the attention of CIA's representative and the os
Department's representative on the Cabinet Committee. _
