Peters ranufacture which have been loaded with 115-grain,
copper-jacketcd, hollow-point bullets. A number of these
cartridges bear mechanism marks which suggest they have been
loaded and extracted frem a weapon(s). These marks are of possik
value for comparison and ddentification with suspect weapons. -
Cartridges of this type can be charbered and fired in semiautonmat
pistols and other automatic and semiautomatic weapons.
The hollow points of cartridges sgfiected at random
from 01 along with 02, were found to contain crystalline
potassium cyanide sealed in the hollow points by a layer of
paraffin.
The holloyv points of these cartridges do not appear to
have been substantially enlarged. However, the possibility exist
that some Of the hollow points were slightly enlarged using a
drill of approximately 1/8 inch diameter.
It is noted that the Q2 box bears an Interarns,
Alexandria, Virginia label. The twenty-five cartricces found in
this box were probably not purchased in this box, which would
have originally contained 9mm Lucer (9mm Parabellum) cartridses
loaded with full copper-jacketed bullets. Cartridges marketed
in this type of box usually bear a “VPT" headstarn, which indicat
they were manufactured by the LAPUAN PATRUUMATIUDAS, Lapua, Finla
Iniiecd numbers and letters present on the bottom of this box are
placed there by the manufacturer and have no siqnificance to
Interarms, who is the United States im worter and distributor.
Therefore, a trace of this ammunition based on these numbers
does not appear to be feasible.

A microscopic comparison was made of the mechanisn
marks on the twenty-five cartridges, O1 and Q2, with the
mechanism marks present on the thirty test cartridges, Kl and
K3, which were loaded into and extracted from the 9mm Luger
(9mm Parabellum) J and R Engineering Coirpany carbine, Nodel H-63,
Serial Number 03304. Nothing was found to indicate the O1 ane
Q2 carf¢ridces were loaded into and extracted fron this weapon.
It is noted that the mechanism markines present on
these twenty-five cartridges are random in nature and are not
typical of any particular make and model of weapon, —
Specinen 08 is a .30 caliber copper~jacketed bullet
like that loaded into .30 Carbine caliber cartridges This
bullet was fired from a barrel rifled with four lanés and grooves
_right twist, like that found on .30 Carbine caliber U. S. carbine
ML and M2. This bullet bears some individual nicroscopic marks
of value for comparison purposes with suspect weapons.
