Specimens Q15 through 918 are .39 Carbine caliber
military cartrican cases which were identified as having been
‘fired in one weapon, Spvecirens O15 and Q17 bear a "LC 68"
headstamp indicating manufacture by Lake City Ordnance Plant,
Independence, Missouri. Specimens G16 and 018 bear a “PC 42“
headstamp indicating Peters Cartriddqe Company, Kings !1111,° Chio
manufacture. The mechanism markinas present on these four cartric
cases were compared to the markings present on the Q7 cartridgqe
case fron Sicqle's Gun Shop, reportedly fired in a .30 caliber
U.S. carbine, “1, Serial Number 3861. Nothing was found to
indicate the Q15 through Q18 cartridge cases were fired from the
above-described weapon in its state of wear when the Q7 cartricae
case was fired. The mechanism markings present on the 015 through
O10 cartriccge cases are consistent with’ those produced by .30
Carbine caliber U. S. carbines, M1 ane 12, as well as possibly
other weapons. a: An vom.
Specimens 094 throuch 099 are .20 Carbine caliber.
military cartridces which have been loaded with llO-grain, —
copper-jacketed bullets. The headstamp present on these
cartridges is "LC 66" like that present on the 015 and Q17
cartridge cases. Tt is noted that .30 Carbine caliber armrunition
bearing the "LC 68" headstamp is widely available commercially.
Uothing was found to indicate that specimens Q94 through 099 have
been loaded into or extracted from a weapon.
‘Specimen 019 is a .380 Auto (9mm Short) cartridge
case Of Super Vel manufacture which bears marks of value for
comparison and identification with suspect weapons. Hothing
was found to indicate that this cartridae case was loaded into
-and extractec from the .380 Auto Walther nistol, ‘todel PP,
Serial Number 44435A represented by the twenty-five K2 test
cartricses which were loaded into and extracted from this weapon.
Tne mechanism marks on the Q19 cartridae case are typical of
the type produced by a large number of .330 Auto caliber pistols.
Accordingly, no list of weapons is being furnished.
The Q9 copper-jacketed bullet fraament and the O10,
Q11, Ql4 and Q54 copper jacket fragments are too minute and
mutilated to determine their caliber type. However, the land
and groove widths present on several of these specimens are the
nam? as those present on the 08 .30 caliber copper-jacketed .
bullet. This sugcests these fraqnents may also be fraqments
of .30 caliber bullets. Althouch specimens C8 through Qil,
Q14 arid Q54 bear some microscopic marks of nonsible value for
identification purveses, no conclusion could be reached as to
whether these specimens were fired from one barrel.
